The Hanze Language & Culture Centre (HLCC) offers a wide range of courses in languages and cultures for anyone interested in improving their language skills and/or cultural competences. You can choose from several language courses at multiple levels, and it is also possible to take a culture module or full minor. Many courses are especially suitable for international students.
Language courses
In the language courses of the Hanze Language & Culture Centre you will train all language skills: reading, listening, speaking, and writing. The HLCC works with the European Language Portfolio, consisting of a Language Passport, a Language Biography, and a Dossier. The levels of the European Language Portfolio are taken from the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) with proficiency levels from A1 to C2.

Location and costs
All Hanze Language & Culture Centre courses take place at Zernikeplein 7 in Groningen.
- For Hanze students, there are no costs for course participation.
- For non-Hanze students and exchange students, the cost is €210 per course.

Culture courses and minors
Besides language courses, the Hanze Language & Culture Centre also offers culture modules, which focus on learning to understand and deal with different ways of thinking and acting within cultures. The HLCC offers three minors in English and Spanish language and culture. The minor Master up your English is particularly suited to students who want to prepare well for an English-taught master's programme or international job.
