During this intensive course you specialise in the Dutch language and culture of the Dutch language area (The Netherlands, Belgium, Suriname).
The Intensive Dutch Language Proficiency course consists of:
- Language proficiency skills: spread over 3 semesters, starting in the spring semester (February) of the academic year.
- Language skills training: "Taalvaardigheid" (reading, listening, writing and speaking) will be the largest part of the course, with an emphasis on speaking skills and listening skills. Dutch culture, history and cultural sensitivity ('How to deal with the Dutch") will be constantly interwoven during the language proficiency class and are important focus points throughout the whole course.
- During each period we will try to organise a social event with native Dutch speakers to practice language skills in an informal way (for example: a joint dinner/lunch with pancakes, a field trip by bike, a guest speaker etc). The aim is to meet native speakers and to enjoy typical Dutch activities.
Level
The aim of the course is to quickly reach a high level through a very intensive language course from scratch (after one semester level A2 and after two semesters level B1 and after three semesters B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference).
Type of course
In the first semester lectures take place once a week. In the second and third semester lectures take place two times a week and have the character of a practical course.
Start
The intensive course is a three semester based course and will be offered in 6 periods (of 10 weeks). The starting points of this learning line are:
- Semester 1: February (from beginners level to A2)
- Semester 2: September (from level A2 to B1)
- Semester 3: February (from level B1 tot B2)
The programme offers flexibility in learning routes:
- It is possible to follow this programme as a continuous learning line in three semesters.
- It is possible to start and finish a semester, to pause for a semester and join in later again.
- It is possible for students to follow one semester or two semesters only.
State exam
Optional at the end of three semesters: taking the 2 State Exams Dutch as a Second Language Official NTII, programme I and programme II. These are the national proficiency exams for non-native adult speakers, who want to study or work in The Netherlands. The Diploma State Exams NTII is officially recognised by the government. Note that there are extra costs for these exams. This learning line Intensive Dutch Language Proficiency is a good way to prepare for these exams. (website: www.staatsexamensnt2.nl)
