Your Schedule, Your Pace: Our Part-Time Format

You will have the flexibility to study at your own pace:

  • You can choose to follow the complete part-time Master’s or take each module one at a time.
  • By choosing to follow the complete part-time Master's’ you ensure that all essential areas are covered systematically toward your MA Diploma.
  • By taking modules one at a time, you can focus on each area separately, making it flexible to combine work and study. Each module you complete earns you a credit-building certificate, which can be stacked toward your MA diploma.

Goals of the Programme (Graduate Profile)
MIC graduates are well-rounded and responsible leaders of international communication, known for their strategic thinking and criticality. MIC graduates demonstrate leadership capabilities needed to work at expert managerial or consultancy levels. They can bring a global perspective to the challenges and opportunities of the digital and sustainable society. They embrace complexity, anticipate future change and propose innovative solutions to open-ended (emerging) communication problems, using various perspectives from different disciplines.                                                                                                   

Tailored Content                                                                                                                  
We offer four core modules to help you develop in your current workplace or prepare for a career shift. Once you finish these four modules, you can choose to do a fifth module, the graduation project, and get your master's degree. Each module is designed to be immediately applicable, enabling you to implement new insights and innovations in your workplace from day one. All four modules share a common structure. The modules deal with core topics specific to a professional communication role. Each module includes theory, research, leadership skills, practical applications, and selected assignments that can be completed at the workplace. The graduation project module is supported through supervision.

Module 1: Corporate Communication Consultant (15 EC)
This module focuses on the dynamic and changing role of the corporate communication consultant. By working with different stakeholders and creating culturally sensitive messaging, corporate communication leaders build accountability and stakeholder engagement, shaping the company’s reputation and success on a global scale. More information and apply for this module.
 
Module 2: Strategic Brand Manager (15 EC)
This module provides advanced knowledge and skills essential for a strategic international brand manager. You will learn to develop brand strategies that align with organizational purpose and cultural values while resonating across diverse markets. Topics include brand managemt, marketing communication, online research, and intercultural communication theory. More information and apply for this module.
 
Module 3: Issues and Crisis Communication Strategist (15 EC)
Even minor issues can quickly escalate into major crises in today's societies, especially with news spreading to the public within minutes.  As an issues and crisis communication strategist, you will address crisis challenges in fast-developing digital media arenas. More information and apply for this module.
 
Module 4: Behavioural Change Facilitator (15 EC)
Making communications more effective lies at the heart of successful behaviour change initiatives and there is a real business need for communicators to design their communications through a behavioural lens. As an international facilitator, you will promote behavior change among global stakeholders by creating and implementing strategies and interventions that benefit individuals and societies. More information and apply for this module.

Module 5: Graduation Project (30 EC)
The Graduation Project signifies the completion of your entire master's degree in terms of understanding the complexities of a global context and working environment. By the end of the semester, you will produce a research report and a professional communication strategy that satisfies your company's communication requirements and the criteria of a professional master's program.

Are you a working professional who is passionate about making an impact through communication in international settings? Whether it is corporate communication, intercultural communication, brand management, crisis communication or behavior change, we are here to help you grow.

Admission and Application

To be admitted to the Master International Communication, you need:

  • Current Employment: You must work at least two days per week in a relevant field and organization, as proven by an employer’s statement (werkgeversverklaring).
  • Work Experience: A minimum of two years of relevant working experience before starting your studies.
  • Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in communication or related fields, such as business, marketing, international relations, public relations, management, linguistics, human resources, or psychology.
  • Motivation Letter: A one-page motivation letter explaining how this master’s programme will help you achieve your career goals.
  • A CV in English. 

English Language Requirements for Admission:

  • Dutch nationals with a bachelor's diploma from the Netherlands: You don’t need to prove your English proficiency. 
  • Applicants with an International Diploma​​​​​​​An English certification test may be required if you earned your bachelor’s degree outside of the Netherlands. See for exemptions to English certification and minimum scores

  • ​​​​Flexible Start Dates: September 4, 2025 (module Corporate Communication  Consultant); November 20, 2025 (module Strategic Brand Manager); February 12, 2026 ( module Issues & Crisis Communication Strategist); April 23, 2026 (module Behaviour Change Facilitator).
  • Introduction and Onboarding: During the introduction and onboarding day, we conduct individual intake sessions to assess whether your company provides a suitable context for selected assignments. If it does not, we will offer alternative options.
  • Class Schedule: According to the academic calendar for 2025-2026, classes will start on Thursday in week 1.  
  • Study Format: Intensive on-campus classes on Thursdays from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Lectures and seminars are integrated with full-time MIC students.
  • Support: You will have full access to our online learning environment Brightspace.You will receive coaching from expert teaching staff.
  • Independent Work: You will work on assignments and engage in self-study. The required time investment varies based on prior experience and the possibility of integrating assignments into your workplace tasks.
