At the international film festival Filmapalooza in Hollywood, filmmakers from Friesland and Groningen presented the films TANDEM, PLONS and HAP. They won certain categories and they are now heading to Cannes Film Festival.

The films were made as a result of the 48 Hour Film Project organised in cities around the world. Johanneke Dijkstra (teacher at Minerva Art Academy) and Danny Zwols (former Minerva Academy of Popular Culture student) won it in Eindhoven and Groningen, respectively, so the films then went on to the festival in Los Angeles. The goal of the competition was to write, film and edit a short film in 48 hours with a number of mandatory elements assigned by the organisation. "A huge challenge, but incredibly fun to make something cool with a framework and such a short amount of time."

PLONS was nominated for "Best Acting Ensemble" and HAP walked away with "Best Use Of Prop". TANDEM was even selected for the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. In May, the filmmakers will pack their bags again, this time heading to Cannes.

The film crews consisted of several former students of Minerva Art Academy, all of whom took film classes with teacher and filmmaker Johanneke Dijkstra: 'There is an enormous amount of talent at Minerva and I think it is great to see that this is becoming more and more visible. Also, as a film commissioner at Screen Noord I put the film sector of the North on the map. Connecting people to each other, and that such beautiful things come out of that, that is the beauty of my work!'
