About this programme

The international Sport Studies programme is characterised by its professional focus and helps you to become an innovative sports professional. As a change agent, you can make a difference at both the individual and community levels. The power of sports lies within the three core values of sports and physical activity:

  • sport is an important part of a healthy lifestyle;
  • sport creates economical value;
  • sport can strengthen social cohesion to change communities.

The Sport Studies programme offers you a flexible study programme that is built around these values. This means that you can give more direction to your study path through various options within the programme. Your study coach will help you make the choices that match your talents, qualities and ambitions.

An important part of the flexible study programme are the (internship) assignments that you carry out throughout the entire programme, we call these assignments challenges. Most challenges centre around a practical assignment in a professional organisation and all compulsory and elective modules are designed to prepare you for these challenges. This way you will gain real-life work experience each year to kick-start your future career.

The global study structure below gives you an idea of what your study programme could look like. So you could choose this order, but there are plenty of other options.

Course overview

Year 1

The first year is the so-called propaedeutic phase (60 ECTS). In this phase, you will develop professional competencies by working on several projects for businesses or institutions (e.g. sports federations, and governments). Supported by your teachers and fellow students, you will develop a sense of professional responsibility starting from day one. Sharing knowledge and experiences plays a major role.

Year 2

In the second year, you deal with various challenges/complex problems in the professional field. You can choose the context in which you want to work. In addition, you will follow several compulsory modules and there will also be several elective modules to choose from. This way you have the opportunity to decide for yourself what you want to focus on.

Year 3

In the final year, you will work at a professional organisation for your graduation project. During this year you add practical value to the organisation by developing and implementing services and products that help the organisation innovate. The three core values of sports (health, economy and social impact) are your starting point.

After your studies

Pursue a master's degree

The Sport Studies programme offers a bachelor's degree on level 6 within the European Qualification Frame Work of the EU.
