Currently, researchers and professionals who study language skills and language disorders in children often do not collaborate with researchers and professionals who study language skills and language disorders in the elderly. By conducting research into the linguistic functioning of both young and old in care and education, insights into language development and language disorders in children can also provide insights into language skills and language disorders in the elderly, and vice versa.
The Language Functioning & Healthy Aging teaching assignment focuses on the following questions:
- How can language disorders in young and old be detected at the earliest possible stage?
- How are language development and language disorders related to other developmental areas in young and old?
- How does the interaction with the environment play a role in this and how can the interaction be optimised?
- How can the communicative participation of children and elderly people with language disorders be increased?
