In IT Management you will gain an insight in the dynamics of managing IT in an organisation and learn the essential methods and principles to be effective as participant or manager in the world of IT and Business.

About this exchange programme

The main question in IT organisations is how to get the necessary IT innovations done in a dynamic playing field comprising a wide variety of stakeholders of a typical IT environment. How do we connect different interests, different cultures and different methods accordingly? This semester will provide the principles behind these methods.

You will learn:

  • to use Digital Transformation methods
  • to implement AI in business processes
  • to work with major market standards: Agile SCRUM for managing IT projects and ITIL4 for IT service management
  • to improve process performance with LEAN
  • to use the impact of (International) cultures by using the Schein and Hofstede models
  • to deal with best practices concerning (Cloud) sourcing and IT Governance
  • to implement Agile Governance frameworks like SaFe
  • to use management and consultancy skills
  • to master written and verbal skills in the English language
  • to work effectively in an international team

Lean is an incredibly powerful and straightforward set of methods designed to optimize process performance. The same can be said about the Agile way of working related to product development. In workshops, you will actively apply Lean and Agile principles to relevant ICT cases and real-life situations, unlocking their full potential to drive efficiency and innovation!

Outsourcing & Agile Governance

In this course you will learn what it takes to manage large-scale development programs and oversee outsourcing partners. You will gain insights into both classic and Agile control principles, along with practical methods to establish control over factors that establish a successful and highly profitable outsourcing relationship. You will sharpen your skills through a negotiation game and take part in a multi-team development simulation to experience scaled Agile methods firsthand.

The study programme provides students with practical skills and insights that are applicable across various professional fields, including consultancy roles. The course combines theoretical content with a strong emphasis on practical exercises. These exercises are designed to help students build essential professional skills. One assignment requires students to examine cultural differences, both among their peers and within organizational settings. This includes comparing the cultural profiles of several companies, for which students may use company presentations and interviews as sources of information. Throughout the course, students will work in teams and receive coaching sessions focused on team building and improving cooperation. This practical experience will help students learn how to work effectively in diverse teams and strengthen their ability to collaborate on complex tasks. The focus on teamwork, along with the hands-on assignments, ensures that students leave the programme with well-rounded, applicable skills for their future careers.

Digital Transformation and AI: a core component of the IT Management programme. This course is designed to equip you with the fundamental concepts and strategic insights necessary to navigate and lead digital transformation initiatives within organizations and companies. You will delve into the world of how digital technologies—such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things and blockchain —are redefining business models, processes, and strategies. Through a blend of theoretical frameworks and practical case studies, you will learn to assess the digital maturity of a business, strategize the implementation of digital solutions, and manage the cultural shift essential for embracing digital innovation. By the end of this course you will understand the drivers of digital transformation in an increasingly digital world.

Consultancy Project

Gain practical experience by applying the theory - from the other courses - to real-world scenarios. Through hands-on consultancy projects, you immerse yourself in the consulting process and advise companies on relevant IT- and business matters. The course combines academic learning with practical application, allowing you to enhance your skills and provide valuable insights to these partner organizations. You tackle real management issues, conduct company visits, and present your findings directly to the company's management, preparing you for a career in IT consulting.

Before you can start

This programme is open to exchange students and students from Dutch universities of applied sciences.  

 

Admission & application

Please check with your home university whether there is an agreement set up with the Hanze School that is offering the exchange programme of your choice. To apply for and be admitted for our exchange programme you should take the following steps

  • 1. Be nominated by your home university

    Once you have been nominated, your nomination will be checked by us and confirmed to your home university by email. You will receive your application link during our application period.

  • 2. Submit your online application

    Once you have been nominated by your home university you will receive a personal application link and the application instructions during our application period. The application is fully digital and documents do not have to be send by email or postal mail. Make sure you do not miss our application deadline!

  • 3. Letter of Acceptance

    Once you have submitted your application we will check your documents. If you have to re-submit any documents, we will let you know. We will be sending out Acceptance Letters from the beginning of May when you start in September and from the middle of October when you start in February.
