Liam Scully Presenting

Liam Scully was looking for a business programme that went beyond the basics—one that combined global perspectives, real-world applications, and a strong focus on sustainability. The International Business bachelor programme offered all of this, equipping him with the skills and knowledge to create meaningful impact on a global scale.

‘One of the most transformative experiences during my studies was my graduation project, where I worked on developing a sustainable market entry strategy for Melipona honey in the U.S. This project combined environmental conservation, economic empowerment, and cultural preservation—elements that are essential to building a more sustainable future. What made this experience even more valuable was the opportunity to apply my academic learning to real-world challenges, laying the foundation for my future career.’

Turning knowledge into action: co-founding Maya Spirits

‘Beyond coursework, the programme gave me the confidence and expertise to co-found
Maya Spirits, an initiative focused on preserving biodiversity in the Calakmul region
while creating economic opportunities for local communities. Through Maya Spirits, we
have raised over $400,000 to conserve 1,000 hectares of the Calakmul jungle, using innovative solutions such as blockchain technology and digital art. Our work has been recognised on global platforms, including the United Nations Science Summit and Forbes Mexico. None of this would have been possible without the critical thinking, problem-solving, and strategic skills I developed during my studies.’

Bridging the gap between university and career

‘Transitioning from university to the professional world comes with its challenges, but the programme prepared me well. The hands-on approach, with case studies, group projects, and real-life business simulations, allowed me to step into my career with confidence. I learnt how to navigate complex international markets, collaborate with diverse teams, and balance sustainability with business goals—all of which have been essential in my work today.’

Advice for future students

‘For students considering International Business, my advice is simple: take full advantage of every opportunity. Engage in internships, connect with professionals and immerse yourself in projects that align with your passions. This degree is not just a credential—it’s a launchpad for creating real impact. Whether you dream of starting your own initiative, working in global sustainability, or driving innovation in business, this programme gives you the foundation to succeed.’
