When I first arrived in Groningen, the city’s peaceful, calm atmosphere instantly stood out to me. The streets are quiet, with the occasional car or bus passing by, and people casually strolling around, admiring the beautiful buildings. The sunshine brightens up the city, giving me a sense of relaxation and positive energy every time I walk through its streets.

As someone who loves architecture, I find the city’s diverse architectural styles fascinating. From the neoclassical grandeur of the City Hall at Grote Markt, to the gothic beauty of the Martini Church, and the sleek, modern design of the Forum – Groningen’s buildings each tell their own story. I especially love visiting the Forum; it’s the perfect place to unwind. Whether I'm reading a book, hanging out with friends at the café, or just admiring the panoramic views from the rooftop, there’s something about the space that makes it a great spot to relax or even study. The Forum’s unique structure inside is also a captivating experience for any architecture lover!

When I need a break from studying, I head to Noorderplantsoen park. Walking through this beautiful park always refreshes me – the variety of landscapes, the sight of birds swimming in the lake, and the peaceful paths shaded by trees help clear my mind and lift my spirits.

One of my favorite things about Groningen is the abundance of cozy cafes. I love going to DE café, where they serve an amazing range of coffee, and the student discount makes it even better. It’s a perfect place to meet friends, relax, and sometimes even play board games. Another place I love is Asian Food Plaza – it’s my go-to for delicious food with friends. The relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff make every visit enjoyable.

If you’re into sports, ACLO Student Sports is a great place to meet new people, try out different activities, and stay active. It’s a welcoming environment where I feel comfortable whether I’m hitting the gym or exploring a new sport.

Overall, Groningen is a city that perfectly combines tranquility with excitement. With minimal noise pollution, stunning architecture, beautiful green spaces, and an endless variety of places to hang out, study, and try new activities, it offers everything an international student could want. There’s always something new to discover, making Groningen a wonderful place to live and study.
