As a professor of Biobased Chemistry, André Heeres focuses on (bio)chemical modifications of biobased resources. Biobased resources are diverse; these can be agricultural products, but also waste streams from industries.
Currently, the chemical industry relies on fossil energy and oil-based products. However, biobased raw materials can often also serve as the basis for green (bulk) chemistry, bioplastics or even medical applications.
André studied chemistry at the University of Groningen. He obtained his PhD in the modification of polysaccharides at TNO. Besides research, André has extensive experience in applying for grants for (co-)financing projects.
