In the Creative Media and Game Technologies (CMGT) programme, you will design and build games and interactive experiences using technologies such as AR/VR, Unity and Unreal Engine, virtual production, and hardware development with tools like Micro:bits. Game development is the foundation of the programme, but the skills you gain reach far beyond entertainment. You will learn to create digital experiences that apply across industries, from games and media to business and education. Over four years, you will work in international teams, explore cutting-edge tools, and push your creativity to invent the digital experiences of tomorrow.
What makes studying at Hanze UAS unique is that you will work on projects for real clients and contribute to concrete solutions for current issues impacting society. Below, you can find some examples of projects our students engage in.
At Hanze UAS, learning is hands-on. In the bachelor Creative Media & Game Technologies (CMGT), you learn by creating, testing and improving real projects. At CMGT you design and build games, interactive experiences, prototypes, and digital products from your first year.
You’ll work across creative and technical disciplines, collaborate with others, involve real users, and learn how to turn ideas into working solutions.
Technology keeps changing, especially with AI. That’s why you don't just learn how to use specific tools, but how to experiment, solve problems, and adapt to new technology. You can build a broad profile, specialise, or combine different interests.
Make experiences. Explore technology. Build your own direction.
In your first year, you build your foundation through hands-on projects, from board games to 2D and 3D games. You will explore different sides of creative technology and start discovering where your interests lie.
Your second year is where you start personalising your path through a choice from one of our Focus Tracks and Electives. You will experiment with new upcoming technologies and apply them to creative projects. In game production, you will design and develop a player experience from a template, turning your ideas into a playable experience.
In Game Lab, you will take on a major project, working with others to turn a real client brief or your own idea into a polished final product through concept development, prototyping, and testing.
During your second year, you will follow a compulsory 5-credit Dutch Language module. This module helps you to gain valuable language skills that will enrich both your studies and daily life in the Netherlands.
In your third year you put your skills into practice during a 20-week internship at a company of your choice. Alongside this, you can broaden your skills through a minor, either within Hanze UAS or abroad at one of our partner schools.
In your fourth and final year you will take ownership of your direction through the Innovation Workplace, where you will work with clients, users, and other stakeholders on an open challenge involving games, interaction, or new technology.
You will then complete a 20-week graduation project, independently developing a professional solution and demonstrating both the range of your CMGT knowledge and the depth of your own expertise.

Not sure what you want to do after graduation? That’s okay. You don’t have to know yet.
During CMGT, you’ll explore different ways of creating with technology, build a portfolio, and gain real-world experience. You can go broad, specialise, or combine different interests as you discover what suits you.
And your future doesn’t have to be in games. Your creative, technical, and problem-solving skills can be used across games, media, technology, and many other industries.
After earning your bachelor’s degree, you can take your expertise to the next level with a master's degree. At Hanze, you might dive deeper into tech innovation with the Master in Digital Transformation (Dutch-taught) or broaden your scope with programmes like International Communication. You can also choose from a wide range of master’s programmes at universities around the world to shape your unique path.
After CMGT, you might work on games, digital experiences, visual content, interactive products, immersive technology, or new applications of AI. These skills can also be used in areas such as education, healthcare, architecture, business, advertising, and entertainment.
Popular career paths include:
Have an idea you want to turn into something bigger? CMGT also gives you the experience of developing your own products, projects, studio or company.
You can work with others, develop ideas for clients, or create something of your own and take it into the world.
You can deepen your expertise or use your CMGT background to move into a related field. CMGT gives you a broad foundation and the ability to keep learning, adapting and creating as technology changes.
Your future can take different directions!
